Ocean Contour captures the sensation of wave patterns and light reflected on the seabed. The work is created outdoors for extended periods of time amidst elements, and, in this case, most essentially the Ocean. Like ocean waves, the canvasses are born out of a variety of physical forces in the process of their making where the ultramarine blue pigments settle into the raw canvas folds. As part of this process, the pieces return to the source of their inspiration exposed to the changing tides as an immersive exploration at sea. Once assembled and stretched, the paintings become connecting modular units. The continuous scroll concept is influenced by the theory of art historian and critic Germano Celant whereby painting is an act of infinity rather than a distinct object. Ocean Contour combines fourteen individually composed paintings to create a site-specific wall-length installation reflecting the waves beyond.
